I bought two “DROK® LM2596 Voltage Switching Regulator DC Converter Adjustable DC 5-40V to 1.25-37V Buck Converter 36V to 24V to 12V to 5V Volt Stabilizers Car Batt” at Amazon store.

When I connected both of them to 12V/9AH rated battery (actual V is 13.7V) with output lines empty, both of them emitted smokes.

In my scant knowledge, current should not flow unless I connect output device. Why did they smoked? Thank you for teaching.

Hi, thanks for your message and we are so sorry about that. The input voltage is ok, but did the battery connect to the input? could you send us photo to let our technicians check what problem here.
    Looking forward to your reply.
    Thanks.

Amazingly, the unit seems to work OK although I have not connected them to devices. Value for input from a battery is OK but I am afraid to connect output before I get confident enough. I need to connect my batteries to solar panels. I tested two so-called voltage regulator for solar panel, but one broke down after about a month and the other next day. So tested your product and trying to find how to set. Thus the question I posted. I also have one more question. Is there similar unit for 100W/19V panel. Since amperage is higher, I think I should not use the one I am using for 50W/19V panel. Thank you for your advice.

This is update. I found the device that requires 12V/1.5A power supply. So, I connected that device but seemed there is no output power. I could set the output V up to 11.9V while input from a battery is 12.9V. The device I used for testing is Iogear WiFi USB sharing station GUWIP204. I made sure it is working with the power supply.
By the way, how do I attach photos?

Hi, thanks for your reply. If both of them emitted smokes, it’s better not to ues them any more. BTW, did you connect both of them in parallel? could you please send us your wiring photo by “add media” .

On the other hand, about your requirement, could you tell us more details, what’s the input and output voltage and what’s the load?

    Looking forward to your reply.
    Thanks.

Your question ” did you connect both of them in parallel? ” — Yes. Sorry I do not have website so cannot post an image. I don’t see any tab “add Media”
I also bought 2 Mini DC-DC Voltage Buck Converter Volt Regulator 5V-30V to 0.8-29V Step-down Transformer Inverter Power Supply Module 5A Constant Adjustable. Again The first one of them, when I connected to the battery, it smoked and dead. But I found that the cause was I mistakenly connected reverse polarity because I assumed that +- lines relative to input/output terminals are the same between two models. I also did not think that your products do not have reverse polarity protection circuit.

    About my project.
One or two 12V battery (20AH) powered by solar panel(s). Three devices will be connected to the battery. Power requirement of devices are, 1) 12V-5A; 2) 12V- 1.5A; and 3) 9V – 0.5A
I have one 50W panel but may need another. Open circuit V is 19V.
The device requiring 5A max will be used intermittently for a short time so total power consumption will not be so large.

Sorry I forgot one more project. I need a good voltage regulator with max capacity of 10A for my 100W panel. I tried two regulators but one died after about a month of usage and the other was dead new (no charging). Open circuit V of the panel is 19V. Because I keep it inside a garden shed, where temperature may go up to 110F, heat resistant unit is needed.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Please note that you cannot connect 2 LM2596 Voltage Regulator in parallel. As you cannot use them now, you can contact us from your order then we can deal with it. And about adding photos, sorry for the mistake, you need upload the photos to a website, then you can click “img” on the website, then add your photos’ links. You also can send it from Amazon message by “attach” tab.

About the Mini DC-DC Voltage Buck Converter, sorry that this product doesn’t have reverse polarity protection, you can see the product details on the website.

And about your project. could you tell us what’s the input voltage, current and output voltage, current you needed.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
    Thanks

Sorry I am novice. About “a website”. Do you mean “our website, droking.com”? Please give me more details how to.

“the input voltage, current and output voltage, current you needed. ”
All of my terminal devices will be connected to 12V batteries which provide 13.7V when fully charged. According to the vendor, the battery is capable of providing safe max of 300A and accepting safe max current of 6A during charging. My solar panel open circuit is 19V and max current, in my calculation, 50W/~13V=~3.8A and 100W/~13V=~7.6A. Due to the location where the panels are, max output will be ~70W for 100W panel and ~50W for 50W panel.

If you do not mind, can you teach me why I cannot connect your devices in parallel? Does that mean I have to use only one regulator per one battery? How about connecting multiple devices to one regulator?

Thank you for your help and teaching.

Hi, the website is not specifics, you can upload to this website, then send us the link.

The input can be connected in parallel, but the output cannot be connected in parallel. If you connect the input in parallel, which is mean to take power from a battery. But if you connect the output in parallel, the different output of the 2 regulators will form the current return circuit. the current will be large if the output voltage difference between the 2 regulators is large, then the regulators will be damaged.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. It doesn’t mean you have to use only one regulator per one battery, but please note that the output of per one regulator must be connect only one device.

And about the regulator you are looking for, we are sorry that we don’t have such regulator now.

    Thanks for your understanding.

I see. Now I understand what you said. However, those burnt two units. about which I posted, were not connected any output devices. That was why I posted. Any idea what happened? Only thing I can think of is that, bare portion of inserted wire was too long and, by someway, went around to touch other line causing a short circuit.

That’s really confusing. yeah, if the thing you thought happened, that is the reason. Cause both of them were broken, if you want a resend or refund, please contact us from your order and attach the photos.
    Thanks.
