    I recently purchased a

DROK 3A/15W Dual Power Adapter 8-22V to 5V Double USB Cable Connector Car Charger For IPhone/iPad/Nokia/HTC

from Amazon. My intent is to glue a rare earth magnet to the device so I can easily affix it to my vintage car without drilling any holes anywhere. Will the device be affected by the magnet?

The reason I ask is that i had bought a very similar device from another manufacturer. It looks exactly the same but is a ‘KREE DC/DC convertor’. No longer available on Amazon, by the way. Anyway, I hooked it up to the fuse box in my car, glued a magnet onto it, and attached it to my car. All good. Worked like a charm. Then one day, after about a month, I was driving and heard a small pop sound, and it burst into flames. I pulled over and blew out the small fire. A little scary. It fried right where the power source wires (12V) go into the unit.

Needless to say I’m hesitant to install another one, even by a different manufacturer. I’m asking if the magnet had anything to do with it or was it just a crappy product?

    Thanks,
    Marco
