2203 adj buck dc8- 22v using on a small solar panel to charge a small 12 volt battery for game camera. used this set up couple months ago and worked great. Went to build another one and the buck is smoking hot! Same panel and battery set up.

Solar panel goes into the red and black side, yellow and black going into battery nothing else hooked up, no sun or draw on battery and the buck is heating up pretty good. Tring to keep the solar panel ( 20 volts) from over charging the battery.

I have not done any adjustments to the screw, but what would make it hot.

Nothing?  If im doing something wrong , could you advise.  Solar panel set up puts out 22 volt full sun, trickle charge, but want to make sure it stays under 14 volts to the battery and to camera. buck is red/ black to solar panel, yellow /black to battery, still getting hot on the case. So yellow and black hooked to battery and nothing else it gets hot, no panel installed.

I rather use it then return to amazon.

    Hello Richard Head,
Would you please tell us how large the output current is?
We think it may be caused by large charging current.
This item doesn’t have constant current mode, so the output current depend on load. When a battery has run out, there is a large voltage difference between battery and charging power. That will result in large charging current and it is easy to damage battery or converter.
Though many people choose this way to charging battery, we always suggest the safest method is to use a converter with constant current and constant voltage.
    Is it that case?
    Best regards.

    I have this solar panel..

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003LZ4IK4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I ran the solar panel to the buck and then to the battery, nothing is hooked up to the battery yet,and it would get hot  .  Solar panel is not in the light at all (covered).  If the buck is connected to the battery and only the battery– yellow + and Black –  and nothing on the other end of the buck Red and Black wire, it gets hot, is it back feeding?

Take the buck, hook the output side yellow and black to a 12 volt battery and only that, should it get hot?  Do i need a one way diode or just something else? I used this set up two months ago and its perfect. same panel, battery and buck.

    Hello Richard Head,
When you hook battery to the output terminal, the battery is being charged. Is it right?
The above situation we mention is only for charging battery, not include other situation.
Would you please try to connect it to other load instead of battery? Please let us know if it is the same issue.
    Best regards.
