I’ve been dealing with recurring back pain for the last couple of months (thanks, desk job 😅), and I’ve tried both ibuprofen and naproxen at different times. Honestly, I can’t really tell which one is more effective. Sometimes ibuprofen kicks in faster, but naproxen seems to last longer. Has anyone here done a proper comparison or talked to a doc about which one actually works better or has fewer side effects?

Yeah, I’ve had similar questions, especially during med school when we covered pharmacology in more detail. In general, ibuprofen is great for quick relief—it usually starts working in 30 minutes or so, which is useful if you’re dealing with sudden pain. Naproxen, on the other hand, tends to last longer—up to 12 hours—so it’s better if you’re looking for sustained relief without redosing. For me personally, ibuprofen irritates my stomach more, even with food, so I tend to reach for naproxen when needed. But like you said, effects can vary. I found this resource pretty helpful in laying out the basics and safety info: learn about dna. It’s more of an educational read than a user review thing, but it helped me understand the differences better. Curious to hear what others prefer and why.

For me, naproxen worked better post-surgery, but for headaches I usually go with ibuprofen. Everyone reacts differently though.
