I’ve been thinking about how car services handle payments lately. Some places want full prepayment, others only charge after the job is done. Personally, I’ve had mixed experiences with both, especially with detailing and repairs. Prepaying feels faster, but also a bit risky if the quality isn’t there. On the other hand, paying after completion sounds fair, but I wonder how often that causes issues. Curious what others here prefer and why.

Good topic. I’ve actually gone back and forth on this depending on the service. For quick, low-cost stuff, prepayment doesn’t bother me much. But with detailing or anything more “subjective,” I strongly prefer paying after completion. A few months ago, I booked a mobile detailing service that only charged once the work was done, and it changed my whole perspective. I could walk around the car, point out small things, ask questions, and only then pay. That alone reduced a lot of tension. What I liked was that the service felt more accountable — the crew knew payment depended on the final result. I used a local service similar to what’s described on detaily.ca , where the idea is simple: no pressure upfront, you see the result first. It didn’t feel salesy, just practical. From the provider’s side, I get why prepayment exists — no-shows are real. But as a customer, post-payment builds trust faster, especially for premium services where expectations vary. If a company is confident in their work, this model actually becomes a quiet signal of quality rather than a marketing trick.

I think it really comes down to trust and context. For recurring services, prepayment can be fine once you know what to expect. For first-time or higher-end work, paying after completion just feels more balanced. Neither model is perfect, but transparency matters more than the timing itself.
