I’m looking for a product recommendation. Basically I have a 12v 3A DC (36 watts) UPS that I’m using to power a device. The output of the DC UPS is too much for the device so I need some way to independently adjust both the voltage and current. I’d also like to be able to place the module in a small enclosure and mount it close to the UPS. What product do you recommend? I found two on Amazon that may fit the bill. Am I on the right track, or so you suggest something else.

So you want to decrease voltage from 12v to 6.5v, and output current is around 0.5A. Is it right?
Actually both of two items can meet that requirement. But in case misunderstanding, we want to said current adjustment is used to set max output current instead of regulating current directly. Actual output current is mainly decided by load.
So it doesn’t mean how much you set, the actual output is the same as preset value. For example, you set 1A output, load only need to draw 0.5A, actual output should be 0.5A. But it will be not over 1A.
Best regards.
