I never thought I’d be the kind of parent who worries this much about social media, but here I am. Over the past year, my child has become almost inseparable from their phone. Mornings start with scrolling, evenings end the same way, and in between it feels like I’m competing with a screen for their attention. What concerns me most is how much their mood seems to depend on what’s happening online. One negative comment can ruin the whole day, while a few likes suddenly make everything better. I try not to overreact because I don’t want to push them away or make it seem like I don’t trust them. At the same time, I can’t ignore this uneasy feeling that social media is shaping how they see themselves.I’ve tried bringing it up gently, but the conversation usually ends with “You just don’t get it.” Maybe they’re right — growing up today is very different from when we were kids. Still, I want to support them without becoming the overly strict parent. For those who have gone through something similar, how did you handle it? Did you set boundaries, have more open conversations, or just wait for things to balance out on their own? I’d really appreciate hearing other parents’ experiences because right now I feel a bit lost.
