    Hi,

I just received the drok dc to dc voltage regulator sku 180057, 4-32v to 1,25-30v 3A adjustable step down module from Amazon. My intention is to regulate a 12v battery to 5.7v to power a guitar amplifier.  I tested the unit using used 9v batteries first off (input voltage was 7.2 on drok)  When switching on amp there was some noise and also during operation.   When using a 9v dc power supply there was no apparent noise.  Is this expected?  Low voltage is making drok work too hard.  Also the current reading was at 0 at all times even when amp volume was quite loud.  The amp Specs state current drawn is 300mA.

    Appreciate comments on my observations.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>Today I tested the regulator with a 4ohm speaker as load.  Amps read about 1.1 amps.  So this is working.  Suspect noise issue is when using batteries are low and input voltage is not 2v above output voltage.  When using a 1000ma 9v power supply works fine – no noise but amps display 0.</p>

    Hello Graeme,

180057 is non-isolated module.  For circuits that are sensitive to noise,  anti-interference feaature may no be as well as isolated module’s. When signal fluctuations from input source is great, output will be also affected.

Regarding current reading, did you try connect larger load? We wonder if there is measurement error for small current.

    Wait for your reply sincerely.

    Best regards,

    DROK

    Hi,

Thanks for your reply.  You may not have seen my update where I tested with a large load a 4 ohm speaker output voltage.

I think it best to provide sufficient input volts and current to reduce noise. There was no noise when I used the 1000ma supply.

Even though amps displays zero when powering the guitar amp, the sound level is the same as when using the manufacturers power supply.  5.7v 2A rating. The amp also runs the same loudness on 4xAA alkaline batteries nominally 6 v. 500mA.

    Hi,

Connected 12v 3000mAh lipo battery as input.  Amps display read  between 00.1 and 00.3 when guitar amp gain/overdrive turned up to near Max.

Unit appears to be working.  Guitar amp specs say current drawn is 300 mA but that must be Max, i. e when moving lots of air.

    Regards,

    Graeme
