    Hi guys,

I bought myself one of these small amp boards. My plan is to remove the innards of a 1966 no name car radio (which is dead), then supply 12 V through the front turning knob of the radio to it (found out how, its easy because at the click, it switches 12V through, lits up the scale and thats it now).

My plan is to feed the amp from my iphone, maybe use a local radio station app, and play it through the original 1966 speakers.

My question is how to use the old turning knob to replace the onboard potentiometer. I measured the DROK to be 3.3 Ohms to 45kOhms. The radio one ranges from 10 Ohms to 23.5 kOhms.

Furthermore, the radio was mono. I only have one lane on the old potentiometer. I feel that maybe I can only go mono then again, or could I simply bridge the pins on the amp – and which ones should I use ?

    Kind regards,

    Carsten

    Hi,

    It is the Drok TDA7297:

    https://www.amazon.com/DROK-Component-Amplifier-TDA7297-15W/dp/B00C4MT274

I learned (google) that I should use just une channel. I do have 2 speakers, 8’Ohms, so parallel wired they would be 4 Ohms which is fine.

I have not found what to do with the different potentiometers – how to compensate the different range.

    Kind regards,

    Carsten

…gave up today. Radio had to go back in the car.

So: I unsoldered the input, and fitted a cable. Put my iphone on this, so thats the source.

Wired both 1966 speakers to both outputs, so my E-Type now has a stereo audio system :-). Originally, they came with mono one speaker only.

Wired the power input inside the radio so the platina becomes switched on when I switch on the radio. Works a charm. Repaired scale illumination, looks like 1966 again.

Tested with a 12 V source: sounds great.

Will put wire for iphone into glovebox, so I can store my old iphone 4 there. Use a radio app and you have…. A stereo radio 🙂 in an old outfit.

Volume can now only be controlled via the iphone plus/minus- keys, but thats ok.

Final costs: 13 Euros for the board, some loose wire, some solder, 2 hours. Job done.
