I purchased a Drok DC0-100v 50A Voltmeter / Ammeter which I have installed with a trolling motor switch. When I turn the motor on, the voltage goes from 7.0 to 3.0 on the voltmeter, while the ammeter shows a value of 0; true readings should be of around 9.8v and I’m expecting over 12 amps are being drawn. Any idea what could be wrong with such readings?

I wired the meter following figure three; the power source is a 12V battery and the device is a trolling motor switch. I have wired the meter in the following way :

    (1) Power Supply (+) red wire
    (2) Power Supply (-) black wire

    (1) IN (+) Yellow Wire
    (2) PW (+) Red Wire
    (3) COM Black Wire

    To be continued..

To follow the flow of the current : my 12V Battery connects to the connector, the device acts as a switch, and when it is turned on, the power flows through a second power wire from the module. At that second power wire, I have attached the (1) Power Supply (+) red wire and the (2) PW (+) red wire. Therefore, when the switch is off, the meter is not receiving any power. When the switch is turned on, the meter turns on.

Current then goes through the whole cycle and comes back through a black wire on the module, and then through the main black wire that goes back to the battery. I have attached the (2) Power Supply (-) Black wire at this terminal; when not connected at that point, I was unable to obtain voltage readings, now that it is connected at that point, I was able to obtain a precise voltage reading throughout the various speed positions on the switch.

The final wire going back to the battery is then connected to the shunt. At that point, the (1) IN (+) Yellow wire is connected on the shunt with the black wire from the controller. On the other side of the shunt, the (3) Com Black wire is connected with the negative side of the battery, closing the circuit.

Are you seeing something that I did wrong?

Although I managed to get the voltage readings and calibrate them, the amperage readings are still showing 0.00.

    Hello JF,
    Thanks for writing in.
Would you please firstly send us the product link for confirmation?
There are many kinds of meter, we can’t ensure which one your means. Hope you can understand.
It would be appreciated if you can take some picture to show your wiring.
    Best regards.

    Hello JF,
We are sorry it is really hard to figure out the wiring from these pictures.
Did you follow this wiring diagram?

According to your description, it seems your power terminal and measuring terminal use the same power. If you follow the above diagram, the meter must be power separately. They can’t share the common ground.
If it is not that case, we sincerely hope you can draw a simple wiring diagram so that we can check it more carefully. Hope you can understand.
    Best regards.

I did follow that diagram except that I used a single power source (so diagram 2) I would have to add a separate power source if I want the ammeter to work?

Hmm even after getting a separate power source for the Power Supply (+) and (-) I’m still unable to get the ammeter to give me results…
