From what I understand, these are flights where a private aircraft already needs to reposition itself, so there may be an opportunity for passengers to use the route instead of the aircraft flying empty. The concept sounds clever, especially if it can reduce the cost of a private flight, but I’m guessing there must be some compromises involved. My travel dates are reasonably flexible, so I wouldn’t necessarily need to leave on a particular morning. What I’m unsure about is how far ahead these opportunities are usually known and whether the route has to match your plans almost perfectly. Has anyone here actually used an empty-leg deal, and was the saving worth having less control over the schedule?

The aircraft already has somewhere to go, so you generally need to find an available route that fits your plans rather than choosing every detail yourself. I came across https://rentjet.ae/hot-deals-empty-legs/ while researching the subject, and it gave me a better understanding of why these offers can vary so much depending on the aircraft’s existing schedule. If you’re flexible, I’d definitely keep an eye on the available routes. Before booking, though, I’d check the exact departure and arrival airports, timing, aircraft type, luggage arrangements and cancellation conditions. I wouldn’t build an entire holiday around an unconfirmed opportunity either. But if your dates are flexible and you can adapt your itinerary, an empty-leg flight can be an interesting alternative to a standard private charter.
