Modafinil 400mg is a high strength prescription medication containing modafinil that is indicated for use as an agent to enhance alertness in adults suffering from excessive sleepiness due to sleep disorders such as narcolepsy, sleep apnea and shift work disorder.

Obstructive sleep apnea is a condition wherein Modafinil helps decrease daytime sleepiness; however, it does not treat the problem of airway blockage.

In adults, the most common dosage recommendation is 200mg daily. Doses as high as 400mg per day have been tolerable; however, prescribing information indicates no added benefit from 400mg over 200mg. Hence, Modafinil 400mg should be used only under prescription.

Side effects include headache, nausea, nervousness, dizziness and trouble sleeping. This drug interacts with other drugs and reduces the efficacy of hormonal contraceptives. Rarer and serious side effects include serious skin problems, allergic reactions and psychiatric side effects.

It is important to consult a health care provider on your complete medical history, list of medications you take, any allergies or other relevant health information before using this drug.
