    How:

    1. Use one of linear Technology’s Surge Stopper devices http://www.linear.com/products/surge_stopper,_overvoltage_*_overcurrent_protection so it has an excellent chance in surviving the automotive environment.

    2, Add an LT3070 post regulator to get the ripple to nearly imperceptible.

    You didn’t publish ripple and switching frequency.
